Happy Easter!

It’s been a rather rainy one (British weather!), but a good one all in all. I for one started the day with a lovely time at church, celebrating the real reason for the day; the resurrection. Mum felt she couldn’t do without our traditional Ugandan staple, Matooke, so off we went after church; to go find some matooke for the Easter meal. Turns out finding Matooke in London is no mean feat.

In the run up to Easter, there’s been a big egg hunt across Central London. It’s a Fabergé-themed egg hunt to raise money for some excellent causes. 200 huge, uniquely crafted eggs were laid (pun un-intended) out in several places across the city, and every one invited to join in. In my travels around the city, I managed to find four of these huge eggs. Big number, right? 4 out of 200 is quite something, I think.

Tasting testing.

You’ve heard the phrase ‘the calm after the storm’ before, and if you’re alive (you’re reading this, so I’m sure you’re alive) then you’ve most probably experienced those words before. Of course there is also ‘the calm before the storm’, and that usually escapes our notice because, honestly, no one is thinking, ‘Things are really good and calm right now, something terrible must be about to happen.’

But it’s the first phrase I’m interested in, today. The calm after the storm, something the bible has a lot to say about. I think life is a series of bursts of calm preceding bursts of storms, and the cycle continues, ad infinitum. Thank God we have a manual, and an ever present help for both phases of this cycle that’s life.

The Psalmist said;

You have put us to the test, God; as silver is purified by the fire so you have tested us. You let us fall into a trap and placed heavy burdens on our backs. You let our enemies trample over us; we went through fire and flood, but now you have brought us to a place of safety. Ps 66:10-12

Well, I thought I’d share. One simply can’t keep something like this to oneself. It’s just so beautiful, nature is. It’s beautiful, it’s calming, it renders me speechless sometimes. I want to watch this video over and over again, and just sit and gaze and get lost in the starlings’ magic.

In Times of Chaos

This is an excerpt from something I heard on 27th October, but it somehow ended up in my drafts folder. It was titled Surviving Hardship In Time Of Chaos. As we start a new week I thought I’d share it with you:

God’s delays are not God’s denials. He is waiting for your endurance, for persistence to overcome resistance. God will first take you through the university of adversity, before making you leaders in the kingdom of God.

Surviving Hardship In Time Of Chaos

1, 2, 3 – I’m afraid I missed points 1, 2, and 3, but I’ll try hard to look around for them (Google to the rescue!) and include them. I got point 4 though, and it got me thinking.

4. Ignore the winds and the waves

When Jesus ordered the apostle to walk on water, he was doing fine until he started focusing on the waves and the howling winds.

When you focus on the threat you’ll experience fear. When you focus on Jesus you experience victory.

I wish those insightful wise words were mine, but I only got them from a telecast of Pastor John Hagee. I hope they touched you too, and helped you somehow.

Sometimes I Cry

I look the part
Blend in with the rest of the church crowd
I know the routine
I could list all the bible studies in town
Watch christian TV
I know all the preachers…their clichés
Been born again, without a doubt I know I’m saved

But sometimes I hurt and sometimes I cry
Sometimes I can’t get it right
No matter how hard I seem to try
Sometimes I fall down
Stumble over my own disguise
I try to look strong
As the whole world looks on
But sometimes alone I cry

I try to speak faith
Never give the devil one inch to get in
I do worship and praise
Let everybody know just where that I stand
On the back of my ride is a fish and a cross
For the world to see
I know God is good, all of the time

The Part-time Christian, No More.

Last Sunday was Mission Sunday and at church we were invited to think about the people that spread Christianity all over the world all through the ages, and not to be part -time Christians. Everyday, what do we do to show our faith, to live by God’s word. Do we incorporate Christianity into our everyday lives, or are we only Christians at our convenience?

I thought about this message, and decided I would start some pages on Scripture here on my blog, share some scriptures and words that have touched me, changed me, opened my eyes on several occasions and gotten me thinking. Some of it will be lyrics to songs; and these, I should say here, are songs I’m eternally grateful for, for they show me that I’m not alone in my questions, doubts, hardships and my Christian journey through life.

I’ve been meaning to start these pages since that Sunday, but well, I got a little distracted. I’m finally doing it, and mighty glad I am.

I pray that what I share here may enrich your life too.
